Whale Sharks

This month we are celebrating the largest fish in the ocean: the whale shark. Measuring up to 40 ft and weighing in at around 11 tons, these enormous fish are active filter feeders, surviving on a diet of plankton, small fish and clouds of eggs, during mass spawning of fish and corals. Living in the open water of tropical oceans, populations have sadly halved over the past 75 years due to trade in whale shark products, unintentional bycatch and boat collisions.
