Our unique history and the founders of Image Quest Marine

Image Quest Marine was originally set up by father and son, Peter and Chris Parks, over 30 years ago. The library was initially based on their own archive of marine micro-photography and deep sea imagery, before expanding to represent the work of other underwater photographers.

Famous for his unique plankton photography and cinematography, Peter Parks was one of the original founders of Oxford Scientific Films and created footage for David Attenborough's iconic series, Life on Earth. Through his micro-photography, Peter developed unique film equipment and techniques, working on special effects for films including The Fountain, Superman and The Tree of Life and winning an Oscar and two technical Oscars for his work in cinema.

Chris Parks' experience in 3D photography led him to found Vision3, the world-leading content creators for 3D, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality. Some of Vision3's highly acclaimed projects include the Academy Award winning film, Gravity, and JK Rowling's Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them.

We were thrilled when Vision3 recently utilised the archive of Image Quest Marine to create Drop in the Ocean, an amazing, immersive virtual reality experience, inspired by and built using our underwater photography.
